The west coast of Portugal has miles of beaches,from tiny pebbled inlets, Bays ringed by high cliffs to long sweeping vistas of golden sand. Even at the busiest times of the year you can find a beach of your own, and theres a good chance surf all year round.Check out the Magicseaweed surf forcast site,well worth a look..

Lagos is at most only a hours drive from all the best Surf spots.Word is Arrifana and Carrapateira are the places to be.There a great crew "The Surf Experience"Who work from Lagos and run weekly and daily trips to the west coast, these guys are the best, they all live in lagos and know their stuff.They have accomodation and now also run Surf Camps in Morocco too.If you are planning to go independant and you don`t have a ride check out the Surf shop in the town center they have a surf bus you can get a ride on.
If you have your own transport and are planning on camping Lagos has a camp site and so does Sagres.To be honest there are plenty of places on the west coast to pull into in your camper or throw up a tent for the night.But sometimes the police have a crack down and they will move you on and give all your documents a good check over.Another idea is along Meia Praia Beach right next to Lagos town,there are lots of parking places all along the dunes and it seems the police don´t bother people there in fact in the winter whole communities of campers spring up!!.It may change will post if i hear of problems.For up to date info on Lagos Go to http://www.lagos.me.uk/ For more Surf and Watersports info check out the Surf/Extreme Section...

Surfing West coast millfontes

If you are heading along the west coast, check out this Town its about 150 kms south of Lisbon or 100 north of lagos.Great little town there are 2 campsites right in the town pretty cheap and well equipped(€3.50 per person..) for surfing head 5 mins out of town to the old fishing port which is well sign posted..mostly just local surfers or people down from Lisbon,they reckon you are guaranteed surf,not for beginners!!.The town had some hostels, and rooms for rent too.Try the Budah Bar or the Bar Azul for drinks and for cakes there is a little place facing the castle(forgot the name!!) but for less than €2 you get a huge slice of cake..The Beaches are great the town is relaxed give it a try...
